The short answer
Can a hotel play Spotify in the lobby?
Not on a personal account. Spotify, Apple Music and the other consumer services license music for private, non-commercial listening. A lobby, restaurant, spa or bar is a public space, so a hotel needs a commercial license for whatever plays there.
For our music, that license comes from MassiveMusic. It is issued for your specific use and covers both the recording and the composition, because we own both. There is no third-party label, publisher or sample owner to clear.
